Jun. 12, 2006 3:06 a.m. While I mostly dislike my job, I do take some pride in doing it well, following the rules, and being careful not to abuse any leeway. And today, I had another one of those delightful whateveryoucallit moments where something that could have ended up really bad.. surprised me by being very good. Today, I couldn't help a customer.. without cutting some corners, and going above and beyond the usual above and beyond. The call was taking forever, and I really just wanted to get off the phone. It was one of those rare times where the trouble lie not with the customer's stupidity, but with the system's falliblity. Some kind of glitch was keeping me from making a change that had to be made, as in per policy. So I did what I could and gave the customer 50 bucks because I couldn't get it fixed that day, the right way. (they wouldn't be able to use their service for 12 days). The whole call was about half an hour, and I had to get a supervisor to help me figure out how to trick the system, and the sup never actually gave me permission to credit anything. If she had, it probably would have only been for the twelve days (only about 16 dollars). So nothing with the call really sat well with me because the supervisor was pretty much as stumped as me, which left me to find my own solutions, which I was not very confident were all within policy. I ended the call just hoping that would not to be the call pulled for QA. Of course it was.. just a few minutes after I finished (it was only by strange cosmic chance that I happened to be checking my QA's in the first place). I about had a heart attack until I saw I got an almost perfect score. Discordia doing pretty good Discordia knows it won't be so bad, but... |
