And I held my love dying,
In my bruised, scraped up arms
Each breath for him agony
All his wounds clearly seen
Marring his precious body
As red warm blood pours
Down the side of his face

I remember still the screeching
As I cried out his name
And all the broken glass
As my heart broke the same

If only I would have listened
When the kindly cop said
“You have to slow it down miss”
Now to penance it’s led

And my heavy heart pays the price
As well as those my boy left behind
For my own stubborn willed vice
I’ve no comfort from them to find

I hear still, the shake in his voice
As he tells me to hold him tighter
Its painful reminder of my choice
All the while he’s getting lighter

He tells me not to let him go
But I am forced to leave him, cuz
His family doesn’t want me around
And I know their judgment ‘s sound
